Customs intercepts 59 exotic cars worth N1.07b from Festac, Ikoyi

The anti-smuggling unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Federal Operating Unit, FOU Zone “A” has intercepted 59 exotic cars with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.076 billion within the month October.

Speaking with journalists at a press briefing in Lagos, Mohammed Uba Garba , the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Unit stated that 59 exotic cars were impounded from Car marts at Festac and Ikoyi. He said six suspects were arrested and would soon be charged to court after completion of investigation.

Other contraband goods intercepted by the unit were, 6,206 fifty kilograms bags of parboiled imported rice, 54 kegs of foreign vegetable oil, 600 cartons of foreign poultry products, 13 parcels of Indian hemp, 405 pieces of used tyres and 67 bales of secondhand clothing.

According to Mohammed, the intercepted vehicles are 2017 models ranging from Toyota Prado Jeeps, Lexus Jeeps, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Camry, Coaster Bus, Toyota Hiace Bus amongst others. 
“The vehicles are currently under detention awaiting relevant Customs document from the dealers within a grace of one month” he added.

Mohammed also mentioned that some of the vehicles are Bullet Proof which requires End User Certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). He assured that investigation will further reveal those behind the clearance of the vehicles and they must appropriately face the full wrath of the law, he added.
