Customs, commence investigation into brutal attack on operative

Harboursandport.com gathered that about 20 of the hoodlums block the highway around Papalanto in Ogun state and attacked them when the vehicle slowed down.
The officers in their patrol van was said to be responding to a call for re-enforcement when the incident occurred.
Speaking on the issue, the National Public Relations Officer, PRO of NCS, Joseph Attah, said that they are not taking the matter lightly and investigation has commenced.

Similarly, the PRO of Ogun State Command, Abdullahi Maiwada, said that they have reported the matter to the police and expressed worry that an officer on duty could be attacked, beaten, macheted, tired up and was to be burnt before reinforcement came to his rescue.
Maiwada said that the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and has responded to treatment. He said the hoodlums are believed to be indigenes that live around Papa to Ilaro.
He however stressed that the hoodlums did not stop at the attack but went down to Ilaro road where they burnt two checkpoints and charted away television sets and other personal belongings of the officers who took to their heels.
He noted that though the officers took off as the hoodlums approached, it was not because they were afraid but because they were trying to prevent casualties.
According to him, “they destroyed the first checkpoint belonging to the federal operations unit and then the second one belonging to our Command.
“We have re-strategised our enforcement not to allow this to happen again. We are going to move in group and any person who confronts any of our officers in line of duty we are going to adhere strictly to rule by using minimum force to ensure that none of our officers is taken hostage, armed or killed.”
