Customs seizes live ammunition, jack knives, others at Tin-can


Harboursandport.com: Lagos --- The Tin-can Island Command of the
Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has seized several hundred rounds of live ammunition, expanded empty shells and magazines as well as jack knives concealed in containers and a vehicle at Tin-can Island port.

The Customs Area Controller, CAC of Tin-can Island Command, Musa Baba Abdullahi, who made this known in Lagos, said over 393 live ammunitions have been intercepted on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
Abdullahi said the first interception was at Ports and Cargo operators of terminal C 11. Abdullahi explained that during examination of a 1x40 container with N0. TGHU 60143419, it was discovered to contain 150 rounds of live ammunition and 28 pieces of various jack knives.
The Customs boss noted that on initial examination, the examination officer suspected that it may have contained prohibited items and as a result the consignment was moved to the enforcement unit were the items were found.
Similarly, he pointed out that on Tuesday 10 during tallying operations for discharge of vehicles from a vessel, MV Glovis Courage Voyage with N0. 036 at the Five Star Logistics Terminal, operators of terminal C, a black bag was found in an unpacked Ford Edge with chassis N0. 2EMDK48C98BA05947.
He disclosed this in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Uche Ejesieme.
On examination of the bag, it was found to contain 149 rounds of 38 mm calibre live ammunition, 92 rounds of 9mm calibre live ammunition, two rounds of 7.62mm calibre live ammunition, 11 cartridges of live ammunition, 12 expanded empty shells of various calibres and one empty magazine.
He also said that a suspect has been held in connection with the first seizure which is in contravention of schedule four absolute import prohibition list item 17 of common external tariff and sanction 46 of the Customs and Excise Management Act Cap. C45 LFN 2004. 
Abdullahi said that the container, the vehicle and all the exhibits are currently detained at the enforcement unit of the Command until the investigation is conducted on the seizures made.
