Speaking during a paper presentation in Lagos, on the occasion of book launching and the 68th birthday celebration of the former president of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Shittu Olayiwola, Miss Usman explained how important it is to dredge the port to enable vessels to come in.
According to her, “the Calabar port is currently on-going with a procurement process; we have a cost, an estimated cost of over ₦50 million for the dredging of the port. So we are looking to see the attended.”

She equally encouraged the usage of the flat bottom vessels that can navigate in the water without depth issues.

“We’ve had successful berthing of two of these vessels in Calabar, which was historical. Therefore, I encourage shipping companies to utilize such bottom vessels as that would assist the Nigerian ports in having vessels coming that will not require that level of investment in dredging.”

Also on Warri port, she stated that it has been approved for dredging and will be completed by next month for the ease of traffic in the Lagos port.

“We have also sought to dredge the Warri port. We have gotten approval for the dredging for 7 meters and that is on-going and should be completed within next month. That will go a long way in reducing the congestion we have in the Lagos port and also providing access for cargo particularly petroleum products coming into the country through our Delta port locations.”
