The Port Manger, Nigeria Port Authority, Tin Can Island, Emmanuel Akporherhe has said that the port recorded over 6.8 metric tonnes of cargo as well as handled a total of 4.8 million throughput in the first quarter of 2019.
Akporherhe also disclosed that 213 ships called at the port during the period under review.
The Port Manager disclosed this when he played hosting to the board members of NPA that were on official tour of the port on Friday. The attributed the success recorded during this period to a collective effort by him and staff of the port.
He however disclosed that the port facing the effect of the bad road and heavy traffic on Apapa road. He noted that the traffic gridlock is not only threatening port as well as having negative impact members of staff.
The chairman of the board, Emmanuel Adesoye, promised to that adequate arrangement and plans in tackling the road issue is being put in place and stressed that adequate attention will be given to it.
Adesoye added that the construction of the road is ongoing, noting that the issue of traffic gridlock within the port will soon become a thing of the past.
