Hon. Minister of
Finance, Budget & National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, has vowed to
strengthen the objectives of African Union Peace Fund Board of Trustees, (AUPFBT)
in line with Nigeria’s vision.
Speaking during the African
Union Peace Fund Board of Trustees board meeting held on Thursday at Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia, the finance minister who is also the chairman of the board,
also noted that the leadership of the African Union Peace Fund Board of
Trustees underlines Nigeria’s vision lies in supporting a peaceful and
inclusive continental economy for all the 55 member-states in Africa.
The Peace Fund was
established in 1993 as the principal financing instrument for the peace and
security activities of the Organization for African Unity (OAU) and was
launched on November 17th November 2018 at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa,
Ethiopia.
The Fund is one of the
five pillars of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). A
seven-member Board of Trustees was constituted by the Chairperson of the
African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat with the pioneer chair as a Nigerian whose role along with other members

Ahmed brings to this
stewardship her decades of experience in coordinating fiscal and monetary
policies aimed at ensuring a stable national and regional economy. Among the 5
AU regions, Nigeria has the largest economy in terms of nominal GDP and
has a significant impact in the region’s economic growth.
