Harboursandport.com: Lagos - A 20
years old girl, Sherifat Suleiman, has committed suicide in Isawo area, Ikorodu,
Lagos over serial molestation by her stepbrother.
The incident occurred at about 4pm on Sunday, July 12, 2020.
The
deceased who lived with the brother Moliku Sulaimon, in a room and palour
apartment, on Road 8, number 8b, off 2nd Avenue, Olorunsogo, Yewa, Isawo were
said to always be at loggerhead at any slightest opportunity until she could
no longer bear it and decided to take her life.
Sherifat
who was preparing for West African Examination Council (WAEC), was compelled to
be living with the brother following the death of their father but their
staying together was not that peaceful and full of molestation by the brother
until it got to a peak last Sunday when she was tortured by her brother.
Having
recovered from the torture, she was said to have angrily went into the
neighborhood and bought a container of a highly concentrated insecticide called
snipper which she drank on her way home.
As she
was doing this, a little girl who noticed what was going on, raised the alarm
but before neighbours could rush to the scene, Sherifat was found lying on the
floor with foam discharging from her mouth.
Immediately,
she was rushed to a nearby hospital unfortunately she died on the way.
When the
news of her death was broken, the stepbrother was said to be jostling for help
but when the reality dawned on him, he was said to have broken into tears and
quickly wrapped the body heading for their home town in Ijebu area of Ogun
State for burial.
Residents
testified to the fact that the lady decided to take her life when she could no
longer withstand both physical and psychological assault by her brother.
Out of
concern, sympathisers were said to have examined the body only to notice
bruises on her legs and laps just as Moliku was said to have hurriedly took the
corpse to Ijebu before the arrival of Policemen.
A senior
Police Officer who pleaded anonymity said investigations are on.
Lagos
State Police Public Relation's Officer Elkanah Bala did not respond to his call
when he was contacted on phone.
