Tribute To The Quintessential Hassan Bello

Harboursandport.com: Lagos -

How do I start talking about the very essence of the quintessential gentleman called Hassan Bello, who by the way is a dear brother, a close friend and a confidant.

My brother as I fondly call him is an easy going, humble, responsible, humorous, humane, kind and compassionate personality.

At the Nigerian Shippers Council where he served as CEO for eight straight years, he was easily accessible. He operated an open door policy with a listening ear to all and sundry.

You should hear the Maritime Industry Media speak about the man, Hassan Bello. They speak glowingly - and rightly so -  about him.

They describe the Council as the least endowed financially compared with giants like NIMASA and NPA but the most media centric and friendly.

Hassan was my gist partner. We discussed, analyzed pertinent and topical issues in the maritime industry.

I found him deeply knowledgeable and passionate about his job.

My brother never wore his position on his head. I recall each time I had cause to visit him, he appreciated and respected me enough to see me off to my car, opening the door for me to enter.

Hassan will be sorely and surely missed by the industry. This is why they rose to collectively give him a befitting farewell attended by the cream de la cream of the Industry including the FMoT Hon. Chibuike Amaechi.

This is to wish him the very best in his future endeavors knowing that as the Hon Minister Amaechi said, he is retired but not tired and will remain relevant in the maritime industry that he loves and that loves him too.
