Mohammed Yusuf made this known during a press briefing at the Customs Training
school Ikeja, Lagos.
According to DC Mohammed Yusuf, “We
collected the sum of Six Hundred and Forty-Eight Million, Three Hundred
thousand, Nine hundred and Eighty-Six Naira only (N648,300,986.00) as
revenue through demand notices.
“We also made seizures with Duty
Paid Value (DPV) worth Three Hundred and Seventy-three Million, Six
Hundred and Twenty-nine Thousand, Seven Hundred Naira (N373,629,700).
Giving a breakdown of the
seizures, Yusuf said three 20 feet containers of timber worth N177,725, 200,
one thousand bags of 50kg Rice worth N43,282,000, 3,143 pieces of Tyres
worth N75,432,000 and 320 Bales of used clothes worth N33,876,000.
Other items seized include 633
sacks of used shoes worth N37,846,000, 44 sacks of Donkey Skin worth N2,425,000, and 137.3kg of India hemp worth N13,043,5000 were sized within the last four weeks.
Reiterating the unit’s commitment
to executing its task, Yulsulf urged importers, licensed customs
agents, and freight forwarders to imbibe and always operate within the business
etiquette by making sincere declarations all the time. They should always
acquaint themselves and be guided by policies of the Federal Government and be
abreast with the import and export prohibition lists. We will not take ignorance
as an excuse.
Warning smugglers, he
said there will be no hiding place for those wishing to cut corners, who
thought they could take advantage of the recent changes to carry out their
unlawful trade were disappointed.
