Alia Promises Security, Youth Empowerment, Agricultural Boost, For Benue

 By Joshua Yousouph

A Gubernatorial aspirant under the aegis of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia has promised that his tenure of office will address all issues of insecurity in the state, provide empowerment for the Youths, and adequately implement structures for agricultural development in Benue state.

Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia made this known while addressing newsmen in a Town Hall meeting with Benue indigenes in Lagos recently. He lamented that Benue State is currently going through several issues of insecurity which many politicians are using as an avenue to make propaganda in order to make money into their private pockets. Alia said if voted for, his tenure as the Governor of the state will put a stop to such “madness”.

In his words: “If you are not properly prepared of to take the leadership of a state, a lot of crises are bound to happen. The State already is going through insecurity but there are a number of things you could have put in place. You need to be vast in conflict resolution. I am ideal in that. A number of elements that were supposed to be explored have never been explored. You don't take questions of insecurity to the media and start propagating to drive away your investors and all that.

“First of all, some people have started cashing out in elements of insecurity and these are going out of proportion. There are a series of things we need to put in place. We are a regional state in the North Central. They did Amnesty in my State. How would you have states surrounding you and you just single yourself out by saying you are doing amnesty. You need to involve your reagent, the central zone. All the surrounding states need to be on the same page or near the same page with you. Once that is done, you've already trimmed down the number of anxiety.

“We need the defense of surrounding states. You are never an island, and you cannot even do that. We need to get everyone along with us. There must certainly be a divergence of ideas. But let's just stay closer to the ones that work. We shouldn't just take to the Media and say this is happening in my State. What have you done internally to put a stop to the madness? So we need to re-access and do a rejig of the State security apparatus” Alia noted.

Speaking on Agricultural potential in the state, Alia noted that the Benue is blessed with a very fertile soil where they produce a lot of Tomato, Pawpaw, Ginger, Onions, Yam, and Oranges. He however decried the poor management and transportation of these produce as many get spoiled and wasted. Alia stated that the state requires processing machinery for the effective processing of agricultural produces in order to boost the prestige and economy of the state.

Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia also said there is a need to reorient the youths and empower them in exploring the various potentials and careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) amongst others rather than using them for political violence.

“At this stage, the state requires processing machinery. We produce a lot of Tomato, Pawpaw, Ginger, and Onions but nothing is done. I'm not sure we are nationally known for all that because all these are wasted. We produce a lot of Yams and Oranges. We are so known for that and our soul is so ideal for all these things. So it is not just a question of producing and putting them to the West. We need to go further and pull the machinery in place for the processing. Once we checkmate all that, I think people will not get back to their full economy ranges

“It is so sad that our youths have been forgotten. Once insecurity infests the land, a number of things happen. Career politicians have devised a means to mislead the youths. They take them to do the misdeeds for them during electioneering. We have to put a stop to that madness. We need to re-orientate our youths. They are way better than that. If a politician wants you to go and fight and shed blood, let the politician send his or her own son or daughter to be on the frontline. We need to redirect our youths. There are so many things. Why are we not exploring the ICT? A Benue youth is a very intelligent person and I think there is more we can do to get them back on the job. We need to get them to understand that as an Agrarian state, there is so much they can do to get themselves enriched” he said.

The Benue State 2023 Gubernatorial aspirant asserted that he is a man of integrity and with a great sense of responsibility he has managed people’s lives for more than 32 years of service in the state. He however solicited the support of all Benue state indigenes in order to take Benue state and its people to a greater level of ease and abundance.

“I am an APC Gubernatorial aspirant. I am the top contender in the state who is to beat for this post. The last time I checked and this very minute that I'm checking, I am the most popular and it is not just because of the popular influence. My folks know I have integrity and am a very responsible person. In the last 32 years, I've been in public service and I have managed people's lives. Governance is about prioritization. So once you put these in place including transparency, it works. These are the elements the people know that I'm bringing to the table and this is why they are inviting me to the table. So I think I am fully qualified to take up this position” Alia concluded.
