Harboursandport.com: Bayelsa - At the conclusion of the House of Assembly and the Federal House of Representatives primaries in Bayelsa State, four women won the ticket of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Of the four women, one clichéd the Federal House of Representatives
ticket while the other three won the State Assembly ticket.
Those that won the State House of Assembly ticket include Chief
Ayibanegiyefa Egba (Yenagoa constituency I), Hon Ebiuwou Obiyai (Yenagoa
Constituency II), Mrs. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown (Sagbama constituency III). Hon.
Ebiuwou Obiyai is an incumbent and two-time member of the State House of
Assembly in the state.
Hon (Mrs) Marie Ebikake won the primaries for Nembe-Brass Federal
Constituency. She defeated the Hon. Jonathan Obuebite by 52 votes to 19.
Also, the party primaries threw up eight new flag bearers for the State
Assembly election in 2023.
The new entrants aside three women mentioned above include Hon. Ted
Elemeforo – Yenagoa Constituency III, Hon. Gabriel Michael Ogbara – Ogbia
Constituency III, Hon. Pamoh Werinipre – Kolga Constituency I, Barr. Adigio
Austin – Brass Constituency II and Hon. West Alalibo - Constituency III.
For the Federal House of Representatives primary, a ranking member (two-term), Hon. Fred Agbedi defeated four other contestants to become the standard-bearer of the party in the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal constituency.
Others who emerged victorious in the House of Representatives primaries
that are new include Engr. Rodney Ambaiowei - Southern Ijaw Federal
Constituency, Hon. Oforji Oboku - Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma Federal
constituency, Hon. Ebinyo Turner – Ogbia Federal Constituency and Hon (Mrs)
Marie Ebikake - Nembe-Brass Federal constituency.
Meantime, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, while reacting to
the outcome of the primaries, described the conduct of the
Yenagoa/Kolokuma Federal Constituency primaries as peaceful, transparent, and
devoid of rancor.
Diri, while commending the leadership of the party for promoting
democratic principles by ensuring internal democracy, said the only things that
enhance democracy are the party's transparency, honesty, and fairness which have
been demonstrated.
"Everybody is given equal rights and opportunities to
contest. I commend the winner, Hon Oforji Oboku who has been magnanimous in
victory as he has said that there is no winner and no vanquished in the
primaries. I equally want to commend those who conceded defeat and forgive
their assurance that they would continue to work for the success of the
party."
Diri, who lauded the delegates for conducting themselves peacefully,
equally applauded the efforts of members of the National Working Committee for
working relentlessly to entrench democratic ideals and taking the party to
greater heights.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the PDP House of Representatives Primaries
Committee for Bayelsa state, Senator Chukwuka Utasi expressed satisfaction with
the way and manner the primaries were conducted in the state
