Customs Strike Force 'A' Tightens Noose on Smugglers, Records N9.1B Revenue in 2022

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - The Comptroller General of the Customs Strike Force Team, Zone A, Comptroller Sani Yusuf, has stated that his team would offer zero tolerance to smuggling activities within and around it's trade corridors as it intensified it's round the clock operations to arrest offenders.



Speaking with journalists in Lagos today, Yusuf noted that the anti-smuggling campaign made tremendous progress in 2022 with seizures as; 225mg of Tradmadol,  100mg of sildenafil citrate, Codeine cough syrup, used tyres, second hand clothing, foreign parboiled rice, timber, pangolin scales, donkey skin and cannabis sativa among others and this year promises to surpass it.

He said: "A truck load of Cannabis with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of five hundred and sixteen million, six hundred thousand naira (N516,600,000). This is aimed at discouraging the business of smuggling.



"Let me once again sound this as a warning to all unpatriotic importers and their agents who go the extra mile in daring us, we shall not only make seizures but our ever vigilant operatives will also get them arrested to face the full wrath of the law.



"This year, we have reinvigorated our round the clock operations relying on our gallant and efficient officers to suppress smuggling and prevent revenue loss. Our commitment to doing better in 2023 and beyond is hereby renewed."



He further stated that as part of their achievements in 2022, the team generated a total of nine billion, One hundred and twenty-two million, seven hundred and ten thousand, three hundred and fifty-five naira (N9,122,710,355) as the total Duty Paid Value for the 2022 economic year. 



He added that the zone recorded a 55% rise in its revenue collection through Demand Notices for the year 2022 closing at five billion, eight hundred and forty-three million, five hundred and twenty thousand, four hundred and seventy-seven naira (N5,843,520,477) a staggering improvement from the three billion, nine hundred and fourteen million, five hundred and fifty-four thousand, two hundred and forty-five naira (N3,914,554,244) recorded in 2021.



He thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) CFR, for his support and the officers in the zone for working to ensure that the mandate of the Strike Force is achieved.
