Benin Trade Policy Hostile To Traders, Nigeria Says Nnadi

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - The Customs Area Controller (CAC) Seme Border Command, Dera Nnadi, has said that the Command has recorded a total of five declaration of imports with a duty paid value of thirteen million, three hundred and eighty three thousand, one hundred and four naira only (N13,383,104) since his resumption of office ten days ago.







Making the submission to journalists at the Conference Hall, Seme Customs Command, Seme yesterday, Nnadi attributed the sparesness in imports to unfavourable trade policy introduced by the Republic of Benin which he considered is hostile to traders and Nigeria. 




He also stated that as the continent moves towards ensuring fast facilitation of trade along the continent's corridors, smuggling has remained a concern and is hampering legitimate trade. 




He said: "In the last 13 days, the Command has recorded the seizure of fake $6million USD (N2,763,000,000)  and the arrest of two suspects conveying the fake currency from Nigeria to the Republic of Benin,  1,300 by 30 litres jerry cans of PMS with duty paid value of N9, 366,45.00, fifty-five sacks containing  550 pieces of donkey skins with a duty paid value of N11,371,511.00.
