Harboursandport.com: Rivers State - A man, Promise Thompson, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt for armed robbery.
The court also sentenced the convict to 14 years imprisonment for the offense of kidnapping and ten years imprisonment for child theft.
Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku also convicted and sentenced Queen Chisom-Lucky to seven years imprisonment and her husband to ten years imprisonment for child stealing.
Promise Thompson and Queen Chisom-Lucky were arrested for robbing a family of their child in the Rumuolumeni area of Port Harcourt.
Henry-Aprioku in his judgment on three counts of child stealing, kidnap, and armed robbery said evidence preferred against the suspect, said the prosecutor truly proved that Promise Thompson who is the first defendant in the matter, and his gang went to Eagle Cement area of Trans-Kalabari road in Rumuolumeni to attack the home of Chidiebere Ogbogu.
The trial Judge said the convicts and one Beatrice Ogunka who absconded after she was granted bail by the police were responsible for shooting the left arm of Chidiebere Ogbogu on the 25th of October, 2018 and thereafter stealing his five-year-old child identified as Chigoziri Ogbogu.
Henry-Aprioku said evidence by the prosecution proved that Thompson took the boy to Uratta Junction in Aba, Abia State, and sold the child to the syndicate, who sold the same boy to another syndicate.
Furthermore, the judge in the judgment revealed that the five-year-old buy was recovered from an orphanage home five months after the incident.
