We Use Juju For Port Operations In Nigeria – TICT Boss

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tin-can Island Container Terminal, TICT, Etienne Rocher, has said that terminal operators use Juju (magical means) to operate terminals in Nigerian ports.

The TICT boss disclosed this when he played host to the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, Pius Akutah, who was on a tour of the TICT facility.

Rocher explained that should ports at the global level face half the challenges being encountered by terminal operators, operations in such ports would be shut.

Rocher listed some of the challenges to include gridlock along the port access roads which is affecting port operations, 100 per cent physical examination of cargo alongside scanning of containers, use of the port for storage, restricted operations time by government officials at the ports and many more.

He noted that the fact that they are still operating can be likened to use of magical powers.

According to him, “In regards to physical examination and all scanning and there's a physical operational limit because it is not elastic and that is where I said back in my earlier statement that in other places globally, if you want to try and do more than five per cent of physical examination or scanning you will bring the port to a complete stop within 24 hours.

“They would not be able to manage it, I would say to a large extent, terminal operators, including TICT, are doing juju; we have to operate with constraints that are not operationally viable.”
