Akinola Blames The Federal Government For The Financial Difficulties Of NPA Staffs.

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - June 19,2025: The president of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA Senior Staff under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government owned Companies, Maritime Branch, Akinola Bodunde, have lamented on the difficulties of the staffs working effectively at the Port, due to lack of funding from the government.

He highlighted these complaints in an interview recently in Lagos, narrating how the government is not giving them what is due to them, despite the amount of money the agency makes for the government.

He stated that the challenges NPA staffs are facing is linked to the finance which is been cut down by the federal government, despite the the huge responsibilities of the agency.

"A lot of jobs are there. There is no port that is not running without generator. The least generator in the port is a 100KVA generator, and when you are running a 100KVA generator, you are talking about two or three drums of diesel everyday. There are some ports that run three 100KVA generators."

"The TinCan Island Port is big; Ikorudu is under TinCan, KLT is another terminal under TinCan Port. All the Port including Apapa, Port Harcourt, Calabar run on diesel. When you don't make money, how do you run your bill? How do you produce your bill? How do you attend to key issues?."

Akinola also added that the 50-50 percent allocation the government started last year have not been realistic.

"Last year, they (federal government) started with 50-50 percent; today, it is not realistic. Even the 50 percent they are supposed to give us, they are not giving us. NPA is an organization where you need to spend money to make money. If the ports are not in order, it will be difficult to generate money. Will other organizations in the Port make money? No. Will NPA itself make money? No.
