MARAN Congratulates Customs Boss On His Election As WCO Council Chairman

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - June 30, 2025: The Maritime Reporters' Association of Nigeria, MARAN has extended its warmest congratulations to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his historic election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization, WCO Council .



Spokesman of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada who broke the news in a release said the election was held during the concluding session of the 145th/146th WCO Council Meetings held on Saturday, 28th June 2025, at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels.


According to Maiwada, the WCO Council is the highest decision-making body in global Customs administration.


The President of MARAN, Godfrey Bivbere hailed the appointment as a "well-deserved global recognition" of CGC Adeniyi's visionary leadership. 


Under his reforms, the Nigeria Customs Service has been repositioned as a model institution in Africa.


The MARAN President emphasized that this achievement is not just a win for Nigeria but a significant milestone for Africa and international trade. 


"We at MARAN are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to more strategic engagements under his forward-thinking leadership," he added.


MARAN commended CGC Adeniyi's commitment to Customs modernization, transparency, and regional trade integration.


 The association pledged its continued support for initiatives that promote efficiency across the export and maritime sectors.
