The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF has raised concerns about delays freight forwarders are experiencing while processing assessments on the portal. Yet, the association stands firm in its support, emphasizing that the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS is working tirelessly to resolve issues and fine-tune the platform’s functionality.
In recent weeks, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi who now chairs the World Customs Organization, has been visiting Nigeria’s key ports — from Apapa to Onne — to monitor progress and engage with stakeholders.
A strategic meeting with NAGAFF and other freight forwarders reinforced collaborative efforts to ensure B'Odogwu’s successful deployment.
“We must allow the system to evolve,” said Boniface Aniebonam, founder of NAGAFF. “Challenges are expected, but with strategic funding and high-level support, B'Odogwu will reshape Nigeria’s global trade image.”
NAGAFF urged the Federal Government and National Assembly to fully leverage provisions in the Customs Act to provide financial backing for the NCS. The goal? To empower Customs to deliver on Bodogwu’s promise and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in global customs modernization.
As concerns mount over cargo delays and compliance hurdles, NAGAFF proposed a 90-day grace period for non-compliant traders, allowing them to align with import-export guidelines. Additionally, provisional cargo release was suggested as a temporary fix while Bodogwu undergoes optimization.
Education also remains a priority, with NAGAFF encouraging freight forwarders to upgrade their skills through institutions like the NAGAFF Academy to keep pace with digital customs transformation.
With the eyes of the world on Nigeria’s ports, stakeholders believe Bodogwu could set a global standard — but only if all parties rally behind it.
