Maritime Sector Shake-Up: Freight Forwarding Reform Advocate Calls for Ministerial Action

Harboirsandport.com: Abuja, Nigeria — July 22, 2025: A leading voice in Nigeria’s freight forwarding industry, Frank Ogunojemite, has issued an urgent appeal to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, urging immediate intervention to rescue ongoing sectoral reforms under the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the Minister, Ogunojemite expressed concern over the deteriorating state of some registered freight forwarding associations, citing poor ethical conduct, weak internal governance, and inconsistent compliance with CRFFN standards. He warned that unless decisive action is taken, these issues may undermine recent reform efforts aimed at improving professionalism, transparency, and accountability across Nigeria’s maritime landscape.

Ogunojemite specifically called for: A nationwide reassessment and revalidation of all freight forwarding associations; Verification of regulatory compliance and membership credibility; Possible disbandment or restructuring of non-compliant associations; an official account of collected Proceeds of Freight, POF from SW Global to be submitted to both the Ministry and CRFFN

Referencing the Minister’s advocacy for transparency at the recent National Single Window seminar held at Mariott Hotel, Ogunojemite urged the administration to follow through by compelling SW Global’s Managing Director, Alhaji Nura Umar, to disclose details of POF collections.

Industry observers say the call echoes growing frustrations within Nigeria’s logistics ecosystem, as stakeholders seek greater regulation and oversight in a sector critical to the national economy.

At the time of publication, the Ministry has not issued a public response to the letter.
