Harboursandport.com: Lagos - July 7,2025: Customs Area Controller, CAC of Tin-can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Frank Okechukwu Onyeka has said the Command collected a total of ₦747 billion between January and June 2025.

This marks a ₦171.72 billion increase over the ₦575.36 billion collected in the same period in 2024—representing a 29.85 per cent growth and achieving 98.03 per cent of the Command’s projected target.
Giving the monthly revenue collection breakdown, the Tin-can Customs boss said while the Command collected N116.4 billion in January this year, a total sum of N88.4 billion was collected in the same period last year.
For the months of February, March and April, Onyeka noted that the Command collected N103.2 billion, N128.2 and N145 billion this year against N100.2 billion, N115.1 billion and 95.6 billion respectively; explaining that the figures quoted above also showed an increase when compared to the Command’s expected monthly revenue target of N127 billion.
The command also generated a total of N125, 679,068,853.75, in the month of June, surpassing the figure recorded in the corresponding period of the previous year which stood at N83 billion.
Speaking on other successes that have been recorded in the first half of the year, he said the Command have received 3,450 Single Goods Declarations, SGDs under the new B' Odogwu clearance system and have successful processed and exited 2,749 entries; noting that since the innovation successful implementation of B' Odogwu, the Command had organised several online and physical trainings and workshops to provide firsthand knowledge to all stakeholders on the operations of the system.
He also noted that a total of 282 vessels berthed at the Tin-can Island Port in the first half of the year, with import tonnage comprising of Bulk cargoes such as bulk wheat, bulk malt, lab chemical, drilling rods, bulk sugar, aluminum nitride, general cargoes among others.
The Controller of also said that In the area of Anti-Smuggling, the Command have recorded significant progress in its drive towards safe-guarding the nation.
The Command have also confiscated and handed over illicit drugs worth over N8 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
The Customs boss also disclosed that the Command intercepted 2 x 20 foot containers which were found to contain 128 packets of Cannabis Indica, 97 packets of crystal methamphetamial, and 1,735 packet of Cannabis Indica with a combine total weight of over 1,000 kilogram.
Onyeka also said that after the physical and Non-Intrusive inspection examinations, the Command uncovered Arms and Ammunition and other military equipment concealed in a 1x40ft container which was conveying four used vehicles.
The items recovered include: Rugger P345 Pistol with Reg. No. 664 – 75425, 23 GEN 4 Austria Pistol with Reg. No. TO 6252, 100 Rounds of live Ammunition of 9mm, 34 Rounds of blank Ammunition of 9mm, four rounds of blank ammunition, five empty Magazines, two Handcuffs and one small iron touch light.
The CAC noted that to ensure proper handling of the items, they handed them alongside the consignee and the declarant over to the Department of State Services, DSS, Tin-can Island Port Command.
"These handover exercises underscore the commitment of the Command to uphold and promote National Security by safeguarding National Borders against the influx of hard drugs and proliferation of small arms and light weapons as well as promoting inter-agencies collaboration with all security agencies operating in the port".
Speaking on the stakeholder’s engagements, the Controller stated that the Command has also demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue and collaboration through sustained engagement with a diverse range of key partners in the maritime and trade ecosystem; which includes terminal operators, captains of industries, government agencies operating at the port and beyond, Customs licensed agents, international organisations, civil society groups, and private sector representatives among others.
He further explained that these engagements were designed to ensure that policies, operational changes, and reforms were communicated and feedback received, adding that the interactive sessions with the captains of industries were geared towards attracting and enhancing trade benefits to the Command and so far, it has yielded positive results.
He urges stakeholders to always ensure proper declarations of their consignments in order to enhance trade facilitation, adding that their efforts to promote transparency and keep the public informed about developments and activities at the port, the Command had actively engaged the press by organising regular briefings and open fora.
Comptroller Onyeka used the medium to congratulate and appreciate his boss and leader, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who was recently appointed Chairman of World Customs Organisationn , WCO Council for his unwavering support to the Command, describing his election. He equally thanked all Customs partners operating within the port, and promised to always promote a conducive business environment.
He urged officers and men of the Command to continue to show acts of bravery and competence. Stating that the success of the Command is dependent on their collective and professional contributions.
