Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria — August 14, 2025 In a renewed effort to strengthen transparency and accountability within its operations, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA has reconstituted its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, ACTU in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the NPA Corporate Headquarters in Marina, Lagos, where senior officials reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to integrity and good governance.
Speaking on behalf of the NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Executive Director of Marine and Operations, Olalekan Badmus, stated that the newly appointed ACTU members were carefully selected based on their performance, integrity, and professional competence. He described the Unit as “ambassadors of probity and diligence,” and assured that the Authority would provide full support to enable them fulfill their mandate.
Badmus noted that the reconstitution was necessary following recent retirements that had altered the composition of the Unit. He emphasized that the NPA remains committed to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in line with ICPC guidelines.
Support measures outlined by the Authority include: provision of senior leadership and office accommodation for the Unit; training opportunities at the Anti-Corruption Academy in Keffi and other approved centers; adequate funding and operational autonomy and sponsorship of public enlightenment programs.
Representing the ICPC at the event, Chief Superintendent Mary Omonoyan of the Commission’s Lagos State Office commended the NPA for involving public servants directly in the fight against corruption. She described the initiative as a commendable step toward institutional integrity.
The newly reconstituted ACTU committee includes: Leonard Onoja, Chairman; Mariam Yakubu; Falola Olufunlayo; Esther Akinfiro; Iroriteraye Joy; Abdurrahman Yakubu; Onwuemene Benedicta and Ipinlaye Ayodeji.
Established in 2004 by the ICPC, ACTUs serve as internal watchdogs within public institutions, promoting ethical conduct and preventing corrupt practices. The NPA’s renewed commitment signals a proactive stance in fostering a culture of transparency across Nigeria’s maritime sector.
