Ports & Cargo Taps Micura Services to Power Next-Level Stevedoring at Tin Can Island

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - August 11, 2025: In a strategic move to boost operational efficiency and elevate customer experience, Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited (PCHS)—the port management arm of SIFAX Group—has officially contracted Micura Services Limited to manage stevedoring operations at its Tin Can Island Port terminal in Lagos.

The partnership is part of PCHS’s broader restructuring initiative aimed at streamlining its core business of port management while entrusting cargo handling and related services to a seasoned stevedore firm.

John Jenkins, Managing Director of PCHS, described the collaboration as a pivotal step toward achieving world-class standards in Nigerian port operations.

“With over two decades of experience, Ports & Cargo is entering a new growth phase. Our goal is to become Nigeria’s preferred seaport terminal and the first choice for shipping lines, consignees, and agents,” Jenkins said. “Micura Services brings the professionalism, experience, and local expertise needed to help us reach that goal.”

Dr. Michael Ubogu, CEO of Micura Services Limited, hailed the contract as a milestone in the company’s mission to deliver top-tier stevedoring solutions.

“We’re honored to partner with Ports & Cargo to showcase our competence and commitment to excellence. Our team is well-trained, motivated, and passionate about handling all types of cargo with precision and care,” Ubogu said.

The move also earned praise from the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN). Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, President General of MWUN, represented by Vice President General Ibrahim Ohize Tajudeen, commended PCHS for its transparent handling of dock workers’ affairs during the transition.

With Micura Services now on board, stakeholders can expect a new era of seamless cargo operations, safety, and service excellence at Tin Can Island Port.
