Harboursandports.com: New York, USA — September 2025: At the ongoing United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, announced a bold initiative to modernize Nigeria’s port infrastructure, positioning it for global competitiveness and enhanced trade facilitation.
Delivering a paper titled “Optimising Nigeria’s Port Infrastructure, Enhancing Trade Facilitation and Global Competitiveness,” Dantsoho revealed that the NPA is set to launch a fully integrated Port Community System, PCS by the first quarter of 2026.
The PCS is designed to be a digital, collaborative platform that connects stakeholders, streamlines data exchange, and enables paperless transactions across all Nigerian seaports.
“We are building a globally competitive port system that will strengthen trade facilitation, attract Foreign Direct Investment, and boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s economic future,” Dantsoho stated. He emphasized the NPA’s commitment to sustainability, noting that the digital shift would reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
The announcement signals Nigeria’s strategic push to align its maritime sector with international standards, leveraging technology to unlock economic growth and improve investor sentiment.
