Lagos Set To Launch Omi Eko Project, Ushering In A New Era Of Water Transport

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria – October 9, 2025: The Lagos State Government is poised to unveil the transformative Omi Eko Project on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Five Cowries Terminal in Falomo.

Spearheaded by the Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, the initiative marks a major leap toward sustainable urban mobility and smart city innovation.

The launch event, scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM, will feature keynote addresses, a virtual project overview, and a ceremonial unveiling by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Dignitaries, development partners, community leaders, and members of the press are expected to attend.

The Omi Eko Project aims to revolutionize water transportation across Lagos by deploying over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, introducing digital ticketing systems, and upgrading terminal infrastructure. The initiative also includes intelligent terminals and advanced safety features designed to reduce commute times and provide a reliable, eco-friendly alternative for millions of residents.

Five Cowries Terminal, a key node in Lagos’s intermodal transport network, was chosen as the launch venue to highlight the integration of land and water mobility envisioned in the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.

LASWA officials say the project reflects the state’s commitment to environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and inclusive development. Media representatives are invited to cover the event, with press kits and interview opportunities available on-site.
