Harboursandportcom:Lagos-Nigeria, October 21, 2025: The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has commenced a week-long water safety and swimming training program for school children in Badagry Local Government Area; as a proactive move to promote water safety and reduce the fear of water among young Lagosians

‎The Pubic Affairs Unit of LASWA, informed the pubic that the program which is the 5th edition, is being implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Dolphin Swim School (DSS) a premier swimming institution focused on empowering women and children with essential aquatic skills; it is also an initiative and part of LASWA’s ongoing  advocacy campaign known as the “Lagos Water Savvy Kids Program.”

‎Through this initiative, LASWA aims to instill water confidence in young learners, particularly those who regularly commute via Lagos’ inland waterways; The training is also designed to provide pupils with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in water safety, swimming techniques, and basic emergency survival skills.

‎The training which commenced on Monday the 20th of October 2025,with a total of 50 pupils from five public schools in Badagry have been selected to participate in this year’s program. The participating schools were carefully chosen to reflect communities where waterway transportation is a regular part of daily lif; and.is expected to end on Friday 24th October 2025.

‎As Lagos continues to embrace water transport, it is essential that the young commuters are not only familiar with the waterways environment but are also equipped to handle emergency situations.

‎With this initiative, LASWA is working toward a safer, more confident generation of waterway users who are safety -conscious, self-reliant, and well-prepared for any challenges they may encounter on the water.
