Shippers Council, UASC Unite to Advance AfCFTA Implementation, Regional Trade Integration

Harboursandport.com: Abuja, Nigeria – November 5, 2025: In an effort to deepen regional collaboration and accelerate trade across Africa, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, in partnership with the Union of African Shippers’ Councils, UASC, convened a Sub-Regional Seminar and Meeting of Standing Committee No. 1 on Trade and Transport.

The high-level event brought together key stakeholders from West and Central Africa to evaluate the region’s preparedness for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA agreement. Discussions focused on unlocking new trade corridors, enhancing shipping activities, and streamlining transport logistics to foster economic integration across the continent.

With NSC taking a leadership role, the seminar underscored the transformative potential of AfCFTA in creating a unified African market, reducing trade barriers, and boosting intra-African commerce.

“Together, we’re working toward a more connected and prosperous Africa,” Executive Secretary of NSC, Pius Akutah said while reflecting on the shared commitment to regional growth and cooperation.

The gathering also explored practical strategies for harmonizing trade policies, improving port infrastructure, and strengthening institutional frameworks to support seamless cargo movement across borders.

The event marks a significant milestone in Africa’s journey toward a more integrated and resilient trade ecosystem, with the NSC and UASC at the forefront of shaping the continent’s maritime future.
