Shippers’ Council Reaffirms Commitment to Anti-Corruption War In Maritime Sector

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria — December 11, 2025: The Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC has restated its determination to uphold transparency and integrity in the maritime industry, as it marked this year’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Day with a workshop at its headquarters in Lagos.



The event, themed “Uniting Youth Against Corruption: Shipping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” highlighted the crucial role of young people in building a corruption-free maritime sector.



In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Pius Akutah, represented by the Director of Finance, Steve Olaniyi, described the workshop as part of the Council’s renewed efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency. He emphasized that empowering youth is vital to sustaining the fight against corruption, noting that they are key stakeholders in Nigeria’s development.



Olaniyi reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to supporting the mandate of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, ACTU and consolidating efforts to promote integrity in all operations.



Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by Hadiza Rimi, commended the NSC for its continuous drive to strengthen internal controls, improve service standards, and collaborate with anti-corruption agencies. 

He urged staff to remain vigilant, resist unethical influences, and champion integrity in their duties.


“The fight against corruption begins with individual choices,” he said, stressing that collective responsibility is essential to building a system where transparency thrives and corrupt practices have no space to flourish.


Speaking further, the Chairman of the ACTU at the NSC, Zubairu Mohammed, assured that the Council is ready to intensify efforts toward sustaining a corruption-free system. He emphasized guiding staff toward honesty and integrity throughout their career journey.


The workshop reinforced the Council’s stance that combating corruption requires both institutional reforms and personal commitment, with youth engagement seen as a cornerstone for shaping a transparent maritime future.
