Apapa Customs, NDLEA Intercept 347.5kg Of Canadian Loud Concealed On Imported Vehicles

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria – January 28, 2026: The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Apapa Port Command, working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has intercepted 347.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed inside an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle.

The illicit substance was discovered hidden in 13 bags within one of four vehicles in a single consignment. A detailed weighing confirmed the breakdown as ten bags of 25kg each, one bag of 29kg, and two bags weighing 34.5kg and 34kg respectively.

A statement signed by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, noted that the interception comes barely 24 hours after Customs Area Controller, CAC, Emmanuel received a "World Customs Organisation, WCO, Certificate of Merit." It also marks the fourth significant joint drug bust by NCS and NDLEA at Apapa Port under two months.

According to Oshoba, “Any attempt by criminal elements to traffic prohibited items through Apapa Port will be detected and thwarted. We remain vigilant and resolute in the discharge of our duty to protect our society and national security.”

The operation underscores the strengthened collaboration between Customs and NDLEA, championed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. Intelligence sharing and joint enforcement have consistently disrupted smuggling networks in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Oshoba noted that the seizure reflects the effectiveness of this partnership and highlighted that the upcoming deployment of a 200-container-per-hour drive-through scanner will further enhance technology-driven anti-smuggling operations.

The Customs boss noted that in line with established protocols, the seized cannabis has been formally handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution of suspects.

This latest success builds on the recognition accorded to Comptroller Oshoba and NDLEA Apapa Special Area Commander Mohammed Tukur, who were both awarded the WCO Certificate of Merit January 26, 2026, during International Customs Day celebrations in Abuja.

The interception aligns with the **2026 ICD theme: “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”**

Oshoba reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to facilitating legitimate trade while intensifying efforts to disrupt illicit activities and safeguard society.
