Tin-can Port Management Sets Up Taskforce To Clear Traffic At Port Gate

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - October 22, 2026: The management of the Tin-Can Island Port has established a task force to regulate the movement of trucks in and out of the port facility.

HarboursandPort.com gathered that the task force was created to address the severe traffic buildup around the port gate, which was caused by the indiscriminate parking of trucks along the expressway.

A source close to the port management told our reporter that the task force comprises security unit officials, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, trucking representatives, and a representative from the task force set up by the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.

The source attributed the recent orderliness around the port gate to the strict enforcement activities of the new team.

Confirming the development, Sola Adesanwo, the Head of Corporate and Strategic Communication for Tin-Can Island Port, stated that the initiative was designed to permanently clear the notoriously problematic port access road. He noted that the management's objective has been achieved, as the traffic gridlock along the port gate area is now a thing of the past.

However, while trucks no longer clog the immediate port gate, drivers have shifted the problem down the road. They are now blocking the Coconut Bridge, subjecting motorists and commuters to untold hardship.

Truck drivers operating without official call-up tickets are parking directly on the bridge. They have occupied the only remaining lane left for motorists after already taking over two lanes stretching from the port gate down to the Coconut bus stop, and sometimes beyond.

To ensure the road remains motorable, especially during the peak hours of 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the task force must now expand its operations beyond the port gate and clear the gridlock up to the Coconut bus stop.
