Adamu
said that the facility received about 15 containers between Sunday and 1st of May.
He
also disclosed that 98 percent of the facility needed for full port operation
has been completed. Adamu pointed out that the stacking area, water treatment
plate, examination bay, office accommodation for all officials at the facility
and others have completed.
He
noted that the Kaduna ICD is a tripartite collaboration between the Federal
Government, the Kaduna State Government and Inland Containers Nigeria Limited
and that it is being facilitated by the NSC.
According
to him, “It is a tripartite effort between Federal Government, the Kadunu State
Government and of course the Inland Containers Nigeria Limited, ICNL to put the
facility in place.
Some
much effort has been made to make sure that the project comes to reality, the
project is almost 98 percent completed. Almost all the facilities needed for
operations to commence have been completed, like the Import/Export warehouse,
the administration block has been completed, the access road is completed and
the parking bay for truck and trailer drivers is completed.
“Their
conveniences have been completed; the inspection/examination bay is completed,
the fire service station is completed, the water plant is also completed. Some
we are almost at the point of commissioning the facility as it were.
“We
thought it would be commission last quarter but due to some logistics reasons,
it is now been moved to this quarter.”
He
said manifest for cargoes destined for ICD Kaduna for now would read
Lagos/Kaduna, meaning that such cargo will first land in Lagos port from where
it would be moved to the Kaduna ICD without examination since it is on transit.
He
further noted that these goods would be moved to Kaduna by road or rail
depending on which is available. Adamu pointed out that the cost of
transportation has been built into that of total logistics for the import
destination.
“The
manifest for consignment destined for Kadunu ICD before would read Lagos/Kaduna
because that cargo is on transit. Once it hits Lagos it is going to be
transported and all these cost are built into original logistic cost.
“There
are going to be transported by rail and by road, we have started receiving some
of the containers now as I am talking to you. Between Sunday and Monday, we
received nothing less 15 containers, so you can see that we are making
progress.”
