MWUN Sets For Showdown With Temile Over Refusal To Unionize Its Works

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - April 21, 2026: The leadership of the Maritime Workers' Union of Nigeria, MWUN under its President -General, Francis Bunu Abi in collaboration with Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, NMNO-WTSSA, have vowed to unionize the Maritime Workers in the employment of Temile Development Company Nig. Ltd; situated at No. 2, Omedu Street, Rumueme, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

It would be recalled that the MWUN, had severally written letters of Unionization to the aforementioned company based in Port Harcourt for the unionization of its members-the MWUN and NMNO-WTSSSA respectively, but Temile Development Company has defiantly refused to respond to both unions, which headquarters are in Lagos; calling bluff of the two Unions.

Also Recall that on the 26th May, 2025; 16th September, 2025, and October, 2025; all of recent and that of April 1st, 2026 in respect of same subject matter - titled: "Request For The Unionization of Our Members In Your Company"; which the Port Harcourt based company had completely ignored.

A statement signed by MWUN Head of Media, John Kennedy Ikemefuna, noted that the President -General of MWUN, Bunu has said that no company in Nigeria and in any part of this world is bigger than the Labour Unions, affiliate bodies and its governing laws in all ramifications, particularly when it entails the enslavement of workers in today's labour world, where casualization of workers has been prohibited; therefore, not in Nigeria would such barbaric act or practice can exist or work.

Bunu said that "Casualization" of workers has become a thing of the past and it's no longer in vogue; therefore, any employer of labour who still indulge in such archaic practice of casualization of workers will be thoroughly dealt with; as humans can no longer be hired for peanuts or cheap labour in guise of giving Nigerians employment; saying that such Labour laws violator will be severely dealt with accordingly.

The MWUN boss had warned that the Management of Temile Development Company Nig Ltd, must respond to all the letters sent to them by the Unions and a date be fixed for a joint meeting within a 21-Day ultimatum of this publication, or face the wrath of the Union.
