National Publicity Secretary, ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto |
Speaking on behalf of ANLCA, Dr. Farinto Kayode, the National Publicity Secretary, stated that just when the Federal Government rolled out a second phase of action
on ease of doing business, to ameliorate the suffering of the citizenry,
CMA-CGM a shipping agent decided to extort Nigerians and clearing operations backward by
slamming N38,000 per twenty footer equivalent (TEU) as ports additional
destination charges.
Farinto noted that “We see this as an act
tantamount to challenging the collective sensibility of Nigerians. This is absurd
and wickedness in its entirety” Farinto lamented.
On the same note,
Farinto expressed ANLCA’s displeasure at the Minister for
Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Ameachi, for ignoring such act of injustice
displayed by CMA-CGM.
According to him, “We frown at the Honourable Minister of
Transportation towing the way of Empero Nero by Fiddling and pretending that
all is well when Rome was burning. It is quite unfortunate that the government
is Fiddling when the Maritime industry is been hijacked”.
Dr. Kayode further advised that Nigerian
importers should discontinue all shipping of their cargoes or containers
through CMA-CGM and other shipping agents that tows this line. “The continual
patronage of Nigerian importers is empowering these neocolonialists at the
expense of our collectively economy” he concluded.
