Smuggling: Customs stray bullet hits 8 month pregnant woman

Harboursandport.com: Lagos--- Customs officials of the Comptroller General's compliance squad in pursuit of smugglers around Ota area of Ogun State Thursday morning shot a 9 months pregnant woman, Olugunna Bukola, who was on her way to work.

Harboursandport gathered that the Customs team tried to apprehend smugglers around the area but a group of young man trooped to the scene trying to prevent the arrest. Information has it that officers while trying to escape being over powered began shooting sporadically and the woman said to be working with IBEDC, was hit.

Earlier report had it that the woman died but it has since been confirmed that she sustained a minor injury as the bullet brushed her back shoulder.
Two officers were said to have been detained at Obasanjo Farm police station but the FOU Spokesman, Jerry Attah, said they were only taken into custody for protection following the attack by the young men.
Attah said the two officers have since been released and that he has also spoken to both the woman and the doctor at the hospital where she was taken to.
