45,462m/t of goods valued at N29.146bn exported in 3months

Harboursandport.com: Lagos --- A total of 45,462 metric tons of agricultural products as well as processed and manufactured products with Free on Board (FOB) value of N29.146 billion were exported from Tin can Island port between January and March this year.

A total sum of N104.5 billion was also collected the as against the projected figure of N116 billion between January and April this year which is a 90.09 percent performance.
Disclosing this yesterday while briefing journalists on the activities of the Command for the first quarter of the year, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Mohammed Muse, said 38,517 metric tons of agricultural products including cashew nut, rubber, hibiscus flower, cocoa butter, sesame seed, processed wood, frozen shrimps and processed leather with Fee On Board, FOB value of over N22.435 billion were exported through the Command during the period under review.
He also said that 6,945 metric tons of processed and manufactured goods including empty bottles, biscuit, cigarette, polyethylene, billets soap, hair cream and issue paper with FOB value of N6,711 billion were exported during the period under review.

He further noted that the above figure compared to 8,140.6 metric tons of export with a FOB value of N7.246 billion for the same period in 2017, showed an appreciation of 558.46 percent in terms of volume and 402.24 percent in terms of FOB value.
He explained that a comprehensive analysis against collection in 2017 for the same period showed that the sum of N82.154 billion which is equivalent to an improvement of about 27.61 percent. He pointed out that the improved collection was driven by the establishment of Standard Operating Procedure, SOP and a strong revenue drive achieved through blocking of areas of leakages.
He further explained that efforts are on create a on-stop-shop where officers in the valuation unit, Customs Intelligence Unit, CIU and others stay in one office to enable them treatment of all issues concerning declarations with valuations, classification and other related clearance issues as well as quires at the same office.
Efforts he noted are on to automate cargo examination and assignment process where examination officers are assigned examination automatically to enable transparency in the inspection process.
The vehicle valuation system is being further improved with the attachment of the valuation note issued to the Single Goods Declaration, SGD form in the system which will enable a quick verification of assessment and duty payment.
