It was glitz and
glamour as Lagos State Polytechnic today, March 30th 2018 launched her press
club.

The launch which
was chaired by the club's patron Mr Olanrewaju Kuye saw the unveiling of the
club's logo and its pioneering executives at the fully packed Engineering
Auditorium of the polytechnic.
The press club,
however, is the first in the 40 years of the polytechnic's
existence and is set to engage not only hands from the Department of Mass
Communication but from other departments across the institution in gathering,
writing, reporting and analysing news accurately and fairly within the domain
of the school and its environment.

The Founding
President of the club, Mr. Ayoola
Olaitan in his speech identified the need for a press club in the
institution. He said: “We discovered that students need to be informed more on
the activities happening around them. Apart from being informed, students also need to be taught how to inform people effectively especially in a world
where there is urgent need for accurate information.”
He added that
the press club will serve as an intermediary between the institution and students,
and as well double as training ground for writers who are passionate about
their craft.
The association
which was pioneered by five executives
awarded certificates of office to 13 executives at the ceremony. The

Yusuf Olatunji, Assistant secretary, Makinde Hannah Damilola, Editor-in-Chief,
Amosu Jeremiah, Deputy Editor, Amori Christianah, News Editor, Alozie-Eke
Victor, Sub-Editor, Morenike Adetunji, PRO/Online Editor, Osho Oluwatosin
Isaac, Deputy Online Editor, Jeffrey Vidal, Content Editor, Alasi Adedoyin
Fatima, and the Assistant content Editor, Abdulrasheed Baliqis Oluwaseyi.
On the
importance of a press club in the institution, Mr Olanrewaju Kuye who is
currently the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations Unit of the Institution,
asserted that journalists are the watchdogs of the society and as such are very
indispensable wherever they find themselves. He spoke on the need for the student-journalists
to come to the knowledge of their worth in the society and challenged them to
get the school administration involved in the activities of the club.
The launching
ceremony was done in conjunction with the seminar organised by Mass Communication
Students Association (MACSA) and Laspotech Press Club titled “The State of Nigerian Media; What
next?” with the Nigerian Union of
Journalists, NUJ, Lagos Chapter Chairman, Dr Qasim Akinreti and CEO Nixxhaxh
Communications, Mrs Adenike Fagbemi an alumni of mass communication department.
Mrs Adenike applauded the pioneering executives of the
press club for this great achievement adding that it ought to have been
achieved 11years ago.
"During my
days in school, I and some friends have this great intention for the
institution to have a press club but has God will have it 11years later it has
become a reality and here I am today to witness it". She noted
The launching had in attendance the Head of the
Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Zannu Prosper, other distinguished
lecturers; Mr. Ade Inasa-Thomas, Mr Gbenga Akanmu, Mr Sammy Ogunsanya,
ex-student and many others.
