The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has vows to deal with Importers of fake or prohibited items in the country.
In a statement by the National Coordinator, Strike Force Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Controller, Abdulahi Kirawa, said the Nigeria Customs is working very hard to ensure culprits are arrested and prosecuted. He also said the ban on importation of some goods in the country was in line with the Federal Government vision in supporting and encouraging local producers and encouraging Nigerians to buy home made goods.
The custom boss also warned against false declaration of goods as this may lead to several offences and charges detrimental to those involved or caught.
Mr. Abdulahi also pleaded with the journalists and other well meaning Nigerians to support and carryout sensitization programs in the markets where prohibited items such as what he described as second hand clothing, used tires, amongst others the health implications of using second hand clothing.
He further said the use of already used tires could account to numerous accident on our roads. He advised the public to disist from such products capable of causing hazard.
DC Abdulahi, in his words said him and his team has recorded a good number of seizure ranging from false declaration of items, fake products, prohibited items, others. He said this seizures, amount to over five hundred million Duty Pay Value (DPV) in three months. He said they will continue to work hard in order to ensure that necessary dues meant for the government are collected.
