Customs Management Celebrates CGC Dual Leadership Milestones

Harboursandport.com: Abuja, Nigeria - July 3, 2026: Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi was warmly welcomed back to the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his tenure renewal as Chairperson of the WCO Council for another year at the 147th and 148th World Customs Organisation, WCO, Council Sessions in Brussels.

Adeniyi’s tenure renewal as Chairperson of the WCO Council is a recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication to advancing international Customs administration.

During the reception in Abuja, senior officers and members of the NCS management team congratulated him not only on the WCO mandate but also on the six-month extension of his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Bola Tinubu. In appreciation of his contributions to the Service’s growth and transformation, they presented him with a commemorative souvenir.

Expressing gratitude, Adeniyi described the gesture as a reflection of unity within the Service. He revealed that he had travelled to Brussels expecting to hand over the chairmanship but was instead entrusted with another one-year term.“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.

The dual endorsements—international and domestic—are seen as a strong vote of confidence in Adeniyi’s leadership. His renewed mandate is expected to further drive reforms, strengthen global partnerships, and enhance trade facilitation efforts within the NCS.
