Tin-Can Customs collects N346.5bn in 2019

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - Tin-Can Island Port, TCIP Command, Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, has recorded annual revenue of N346.5 billion remitted into the Federation account in 2019, surpassing the targeted revenue of N342.3 billion with 1.2 per cent.
The record further showed that the Command also surpassed the 2018 revenue with 0.87 per cent, as it recorded N343.5 billion against N346.5 generated in the year under review.
In a statement made available to Vanguard Maritime Report by the Public Relations Officer, TCIP Command, CPRO Uche Ejesieme, the Customs Area Comptroller, CAC Mba Musa, revealed that the command during the year under review, made a total seizure of 53 containers (16x40ft, 37x20ft), as well as 3 non-containerized Cargoes with a total duty paid value, DPV, of N5.9 billion.
The seizures include; rice, used tyres, pharmaceuticals, vegetable oil, military accoutrements, among others.
The record also showed that the command during this period exported 269,819.5 tons of items with a total Free on Board, FOB value of N130 billion.
In his reaction to these achievements, CAC Musa said that the command was able to create templates and blueprints that guided their actions in line with the mission and vision of the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) and his management.
He added that the command will continue to sensitize and encourage export as a means of attaining the balance of trade for the interest of the Nation.
He stated: “I wish to pay tribute to the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali Rtd and members of his management for their tremendous support with the provision of appropriate software (NICIS II) and hardware, working tools, vehicles etc and leadership which no doubt put us on our toes.
“We promise not to renege on our responsibilities as we intend to strive for more efficiency and effectiveness. We will not let our guards down, having realized the enormity of the task ahead.
“The command is at the vanguard of this drive and has developed strategies for the actualization of the mandate. To this effect, we must give kudos to the stakeholders, particularly the various freight forwarding groups for their support to the command.
“The command will continue to cherish the contributions of our patriotic and compliant stakeholders while urging non-compliant stakeholders to toe the line of patriotism”.
Musa however, listed the challenges facing the smooth operations of the Command as he urges various stakeholders to continue in improving the sector for profit maximization.
“Part of the major challenge we had is the issue of poor access roads and infrastructure, lack of Government Warehouse facility, non-availability of operational equipment by the Terminal Operators among others, lack of scanners.
“Similarly to the above was the removal of some Terminals that were hitherto under the Command, this affected the volume of cargo handled by the Command and by implication the revenue accruable to the command”, he concluded.
