NPA Take Protective Measures Across Nation’s Port Over Coronavirus

Harboursandport.com: Lagos - In a bid to curb the dreaded Coronavirus coming into the country from the nation’s seaport, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA has deployed health personnel, protective gears and ambulance to the quayside across the ports in the nation.

Disclosing this in Lagos, the General Manager in charge of Corporate and Strategic Communications of the NPA, Adams Jato, said that already staff of the Authority have been education what to look out for as well as what to do when a suspected case is discovered.
He explained that this week NPA will hold a workshop with stakeholders to sensitise them on the virus, what to look out for and how to protect themselves when a suspected case is discovered.
According to him, “What we are actually doing now is enlighten our staff and other stakeholders of the procedure and the protocols. For instance, if a ship is coming to berth, our pilots are well informed that if they sense or sees suspect of any kind relating to the coronavirus; that ship is detained at the anchorage so we have what we call the yellow flag which is going to raised.
Then we call the Port Health and other Health Workers to go inside the vessel and see the extent that is involved. If there is any case reported, we already have an ambulance that is on standby in case it becomes so serious, the ambulance will now hand over to the state government and take them to where they have to do all the necessary test.
“Yes, the measure is in all the major ports, specifically we are present at all the entry point for some of these things but everybody is looking at Lagos and as well as Port Harcourt.
“We have deployed all our materials for them to be using sanitizers, gloves and some of these are the pilots have to be used and people who are coming to the ports.
