Apapa traffic: Shippers Council move to suspend demurrage collection

Harboursandport.com:  Lagos - Nigerian Shippers Council, NSC, has commenced move to suspend the collection of demurrage and other levies affected by Apapa gridlock.

Executive Secretary NSC, Mr. Hassan Bello,  who made this known in Lagos, said the need for the suspension became necessary following the difficult clearing procedure at the ports.

In a press statement signed by Head of Public Relations, Rekiya Zubairu, noted the the Shippers Council boss pointed out that the condition of the Apapa port roads has made it impossible for shippers to clear goods from terminals within the three days allowed as well as return empty containers within four days.

The condition of the roads has resulted in a standstill traffic around the ports thereby frustrating the ability of the shippers to perform their obligations," he noted.
