Harboursandport.com: Lagos - The Managing Director of an Oil Marketing Company (name withheld) and seven other senior staff of the company have been kidnapped in Lagos.
A member of the Lagos Port Security Forum who spoke to Harboursandport.com on the condition of anonymity confirmed that the eight staff of the oil marketing company were taken from the company's terminal at Tin-can Island port on their way from work today.
However, Harboursandport.com gathered that the MD and the seven other staff of the company were actually kidnapped around Ijegun waters on his way back from work. An unconfirmed report has it that the Oil Company Boss who lives around the Ijegun area had earlier discharged his security details at the firm's terminal at Tin-can Port boarding the boat home.
A source who spoke with Harboursandport.com explained that half to through their journey, they were accosted by another boat and the eight staff were taken into the new boat before being taken away.
The source further noted that most of their personal belongings, including laptops and phones were found in the boat taking the staff home. The source also said that though the families of the kidnapped staff have been informed, the kidnappers were yet to contact the family or the company as of this morning.
Chairman of Lagos Maritime Security Zone of the Port Facility Security Officers Forum, PFSO, Mr. Wole Gege, who was said to have confirmed the incident however said nothing had been heard from the kidnapped employees.
He also stated that family members of the affected employees had been informed.
Gege said: “We hope we will get an update soon. Security authorities have been alerted of the development and have begun an investigation.”
