Nigeria Maritime Expo Relaunches, Calls for Strategic Collaboration in Blue Economy

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria – November 17, 2025: The Nigeria Maritime Expo, NIMAREX has officially been relaunched in Lagos, marking a renewed commitment to repositioning the country’s maritime industry for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.

Chairman of the Planning Committee and President Nigeria Shipowners Association, NISA, Otunba Sola Adewumi.

The two-day event, held at the Oriental Hotel, was themed “Repositioning the Nigeria Maritime Industry – Need for Strategic Collaboration for Sustainable Growth and Global Competitiveness.”

Delivering the welcome address, Otunba Sola Adewumi, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Nigeria Shipowners Association, described the relaunch as a rekindling of a vision first conceived in 2011 to unite stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.

“Today, we are not merely reviving an event; we are rekindling a vision—a vision to showcase, strengthen, and celebrate the immense potential of Nigeria’s maritime industry,” Adewumi said.

He recalled that NIMAREX, first introduced in 2011, quickly became a rallying point for collaboration, investment, and policy dialogue before being interrupted in 2014. Its return, he noted, demonstrates the resilience of the vision and the enduring relevance of the maritime sector to Nigeria’s national development.

Adewumi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, describing it as a visionary step that aligns with recommendations made during the inaugural NIMAREX.

He also expressed appreciation to Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, for his endorsement and support, which he said has rekindled confidence and enthusiasm across the sector.

The Planning Committee Chairman emphasized that NIMAREX is more than an exhibition, calling it “the voice of the Nigerian maritime industry.” He urged government agencies, private sector players, investors, and international partners to support the initiative, stressing that collaboration is key to unlocking Nigeria’s maritime potential.

“Together, we can build a more vibrant, sustainable, and prosperous maritime future for Nigeria,” Adewumi declared.

The relaunch attracted dignitaries including the Honorable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Imperial Majesty Oba Sen. Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi (Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land), captains of industry, and heads of government maritime agencies.

The event is expected to serve as a platform for innovation, investment, and policy dialogue, with deliberations over the next two days aimed at inspiring meaningful action and lasting impact yin Nigeria’s blue economy.
