NAGAFF Suspends Proposed Strike Over Poor Services By APMT, Give Reasons

The 100 percent Compliance Team of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has given real reasons why it has suspended its proposed strike over the poor services by AP Moller Terminals (APMT). 
This is even as it has it has appealed to industry stakeholders to remain calm as the team is working assiduously to ensure the improvement of services at the nation's ports.

According to an official statement signed by the National Coordinator of the NAGAFF 100 percent Compliance team, Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim which was made available to our correspondent noted that the deplorable condition of the examination bay and horrible scanning operations at a terminal concessionaire, APM Terminals are some of the reasons for the planned protest.

Tanko noted that the Intelligence network of the team gathered that an army of hoodlums had been hired to disrupt our operations and hijack the peaceful protest. He also added the management of APM Terminals have also planted saboteurs for the same purpose. 

The National Coordinator of the Compliance Team, informed that the Customs Area Controller of Apapa and the Commissioner of Police, Western ports Command had waded in and appealed to stakeholders to keep calm as the issue is being looked into.

He also added that the team has been invited us to a meeting today (14th June) for a dialogue. 

The statement reads " The 100% Compliance Team wishes to appraise freight forwarders and concerned professionals on the reasons for aborting the planned protest scheduled to take place today 13th June 2023. As you well know, the poor services and outright sabotage of our economy by a terminal concessionaire, APM TERMINALS necesitated the planned protest.

"The deplorable condition of their examination bay and horrible scanning operations are some of the reasons for our planned protest. But thanks to our intelligence network, an army of hoodlums had been hired to disrupt our operations and hijack the peaceful protest.

"We also gathered that APM TERMINALS have planted saboteurs for the same purpose. We now that some high officials have been giving millions of Naira to scuttle our plans. But we are not perturbed. Neither are we intimidated.

"Having been to the examination bay to see things for himself, the Customs Area Comptroller Apapa, being a conscientious administrator and having the aforementioned intelligence at his disposal appealed to us to step down the peaceful action.

"Thank God he believed us and has now summoned the APM management for consultations. The Commissioner of Police, Western ports Command also concurred with the above and similarly appealed for calm. He has also invited us to a meeting tomorrow 14th June for a dialogue while commending us for our efforts.He went to the terminal to see things for himself.

"Other security agencies, including the port security officer have also keyed into dialogue mode with us.

"In the light of the above, we had to suspend the planned peaceful protest 

"Note: it is only a suspension, we stand ready to mobilize our members if we don't notice an appreciable improvement in the examination bay, and imprend scanning operations.

"I Ibrahim Tanko will never disappoint you as we fight to improve services in our work environment.

"We appeal to all stakeholders and sister assosiations who support us to remain calm and vigilant as our cause it noble, for our good and that of country" the statement concluded.
