Harboursandport.com: Abia - August 2, 2025: Abia State is back in the spotlight as the long-dormant Isiala Ngwa Inland Dry Port, IDP project gains fresh momentum—set to transform the state into a regional trade and logistics hub.
Originally initiated in 2006, the dry port project is being revitalized through efforts led by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, aiming to boost inland trade connectivity and decentralize Nigeria’s maritime operations.
During a recent courtesy visit to Governor Alex Otti, OFR, the Executive Secretary and CEO of NSC, Akutah Pius, praised the governor’s commitment and highlighted the dry port’s strategic value in extending logistics infrastructure deeper into the country’s commercial interior.
Akutah emphasized that close collaboration between the state government and project concessioners could unlock significant economic growth for Abia State and the broader South-East region—potentially positioning the IDP as a cornerstone of regional trade.
Governor Otti, in turn, expressed his strong support for fast-tracking the port’s operations and stressed the urgent need for an efficient rail system to link the dry port to coastal seaports—cutting transport costs and enhancing Nigeria's competitiveness.
The NSC reaffirmed its commitment to providing both technical and regulatory support, ensuring the dry port evolves into a vital engine for regional economic transformation.
