UK Tariff Relief Opens Doors for Nigerian Women Entrepreneurs Under DCTS Programme

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria – November 20, 2025: The United Kingdom has rolled out tariff relief on nearly 3,000 products under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme, DCTS, to creating new opportunities for Nigerian exporters—particularly women-led businesses—to access one of the world’s most competitive markets at reduced costs.

Nigeria’s Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, has urged women entrepreneurs to seize the moment, describing the initiative as a “game changer” for trade and economic transformation.

The tariff relief covers a wide range of products including agriculture, processed foods, cosmetics, and wellness items.

Similarly, market expansion is designed to help Nigerian businesses scale production, reduce costs, and expand market share in the UK while the UK-Nigeria Trade Mission is connecting women-led businesses directly with UK importers for long-term collaboration.

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC is already driving initiatives to prepare entrepreneurs for global markets. Projects such as the SheTrades Nigeria Hub and the “Go Global, Go Certification” programme have sponsored over 400 MSMEs—80 per cent of which are women-led—helping them meet international standards like HACCP, FDA, and ISO 22000.

Minister Oduwole emphasized that the DCTS is more than a trade policy—it is a pathway to economic empowerment and global competitiveness for Nigerian women.

“This is your moment to leverage these policies and position your brand globally,” she said.

Industry experts believe the scheme will accelerate Nigeria’s export diversification agenda, strengthen women’s participation in international trade, and boost the country’s economic transformation drive.
