Customs Detains NCJTFLCA Officials, As Group Protests Intimidation

Harboursandport.com: Seme Border, Lagos – December 2, 2025: The National Compliance Joint Taskforce of Licensed Clearing Agents, NCJTFLCA has condemned the detention of its officials by Customs officers at the Seme Border, describing the action as unjust and an attempt to intimidate its members.

According to the group, the incident occurred on Monday, November 24, 2025, when NCJTFLCA officials led by Western Zone PRO, A. A Victor, were conducting routine monitoring near the Badagry roundabout.

The officials reportedly observed suspicious activities involving trucks with covered registration numbers.

They were allegedly attacked by a group of over 30 individuals, said to be linked to the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents, ANLCA. Victor was thrown into a drainage and sustained serious injuries.

Following the attack, NCJTFLCA officials were detained for three days by Customs officers, allegedly at the directive of the Deputy Comptroller of Enforcement, Badagry. They were later released on bail after paying a significant sum and signing an undertaking.

The Taskforce described the detention as persecution, claiming it was linked to its exposure of suspicious smuggling activities at the border.

NCJTFLCA expressed alarm over what it described as rising smuggling activities under the new Controller, Adewale Adenuga, without a corresponding increase in revenue. The group believes its officials are being targeted for raising concerns about illicit trade.

The Taskforce has called for a thorough investigation into the attack and detention of its officials; the unconditional release of all detained members and  action against those involved in smuggling activities.

The group also ask for a greater transparency in Customs operations at the Seme Border even as they urged the public and stakeholders to support its mission of promoting compliance and accountability in Nigeria’s maritime and logistics industry.
