Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria: December 9, 2025: The Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC has reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong leadership pipeline with the launch of a succession-planning workshop targeted at middle-level managers.
The initiative, held in Lagos, is designed to address the looming leadership gap within the Council and ensure preparedness for future organisational demands.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Akutah Pius, represented by the Director of Consumer Affairs Department, Mrs. Ify Okolue, described the Council’s vision of producing “competent, confident and future-ready” leaders.
He stressed the need for a deliberate, structured, and merit-driven process to identify the next generation of leaders.
The Director of Human Resources Management Department, Mustapha Zubairu, underscored the strategic importance of the programme, noting that senior-level retirements continue to create gaps.
He explained that the succession-planning initiative would guarantee continuity of the Council’s programmes and overall organisational stability.
A paper presentation was delivered by Joy Bridget Dimka, Senior Legal Officer, on behalf of the Deputy Director, Legal Services Department, Emeka Okereke.
The presentation, titled “Evolution of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency, NPERA Bill,” highlighted NSC’s role as Nigeria’s port economic regulator and advocated the establishment of NPERA to strengthen regulatory oversight at the nation’s seaports.
The workshop forms part of NSC’s broader agenda to enhance capacity development and sustain effective leadership across its operations.
