Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria - February 18, 2026: The Port Manager of the Lagos Port Complex, Adebowale Lawal, has said that he had to personally intervene to stop trucks driving against traffic between Elegaza and the Port Gate.
Lawal, who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Harboursandport.com in his office, explained that truckers were using his name to bypass security checkpoints to gain easy access into the port.
The Port Manager, who said he was aware of this development, came out on a Saturday morning and parked his car at the port entrance, waiting for the trucks driving against traffic.
He noted that he saw about five trucks heading towards the port against traffic; he blocked them and demanded to know why they were driving in the wrong direction.
According to him: "On a Saturday, I came out to the port to observe right in front of the gate. I blocked five trucks driving against traffic. When I asked them why they were doing so, they said, ‘Oh, it’s an order from above.’
"When I asked who gave the order, they said it was the Port Manager. I then asked, ‘Okay, who did the PM talk to? I want to see the person.’ They called their boss, who also confirmed that it was the PM who instructed them to drive against traffic.
"To prove to them that I am the PM and that I never gave such an order, I directed that the five trucks be impounded. If I had not been there, they would have told my staff that I gave the order, and my staff might have allowed them, thinking it was me.
"It was only later they realized that I am the Port Manager, and I never told anyone to drive against traffic in the first place. Imagine if someone else had stopped them—they would have insisted, because they were even insisting to me that the Port Manager told them to take that route."
