MWUN President-General Salutes Muslims On Eid-Fitr, Calls For Love, Peace, Hope

Harboursandport.com: Lagos, Nigeria – March 20, 2026: The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MWUN has joined millions of faithful across the globe in celebrating Eid-Fitr, with its President-General, Francis Bunu Abi, urging Muslims to embrace love, peace, and mutual respect as taught by Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Unto Him).

In his goodwill message, Bunu reminded worshippers that the end of Ramadan is not just a time of festivity but a period of purity, reflection, and renewed commitment to Almighty Allah. He stressed that true faith must be demonstrated in coexistence with people of other religions, noting that all humanity shares one Creator.

“Our faith in Allah will be incomplete if we cannot co-habit peacefully with our brothers and sisters of other faiths. Until we recognize this simple truth, peace will be difficult to come by,” he said.

The MWUN leader emphasized that both Islam and Christianity spring from the same divine source, with differences only in methods of worship. He warned against violence carried out in the name of religion, insisting that only Allah has the authority to judge mankind.

A statement signed by the Head of Media, MWUN, John Kennedy Ikemefuna, noted that Bunu extended his Eid felicitations to Muslims worldwide, praying especially for victims of conflicts in the Middle East. He described the ongoing war as “needless” and urged for its immediate end to prevent further destruction of lives and property.

He also called on insurgents and armed groups tormenting communities in Nigeria’s North East and other troubled regions to drop their weapons and embrace peace, reminding them of Prophet Mohammed’s philosophy of love and compassion.

The MWUN President-General urged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-Fitr to recommit to building a crime-free society, stressing that the celebration should reflect the values of charity, hope, and unity.

He concluded by saluting all Muslims across Nigeria and the world, praying that the blessings of the holy season bring comfort to families, strengthen communities, and foster peace across nations.
