The Federal Operations Unit Zone 'A' of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has intercepted 220 consignments of smuggled goods with a Duty Paid Value, DPV worth N3.24 billion and recovered N728.98 million in revenue.

Disclosing this in Lagos, the Controller of the Unit, Gambo Aliyu, stated that officers and men of the Unit carried out different operations targeting under-declarations, dangerous drugs, foreign rice, and wildlife to protect the nation's economy.

Aliyu noted that officials of the Unit used risk profiling to spot these abnormal documentations. He stated that the contraband items impounded include 4,956 bags of 50kg rice, totaling eight trailer loads; 12 foreign-used vehicles; and 964 jerry-cans of fuel.

He disclosed that the Unit intercepted 2,683 parcels of synthetic cannabis and 49 parcels of Ghanaian Loud. Aliyu noted that officers and men of the Unit also impounded meth, granular cannabis, 240,000 Tramadol tablets, and 12,000 Hypnox tablets.

The Customs boss also noted that the Unit recovered 22 pieces of elephant tusks weighing over 130kg, confiscated 686 cartons of foreign poultry, and seized 26 cartons of vegetable oil. 

Other intercepted cargo included prohibited items comprising 414 bales of used clothing and 2,947 pieces of used vehicle tyres off the transport corridors.

Aliyu warned traders to obey the law or face strict penalties, stressing that stopping illegal food and goods helps local farmers, while blocking dangerous drugs protects the health of young Nigerians. 

He promised a balanced approach to trade and border enforcement while thanking sister agencies and public informants for key intelligence. He assured that the Unit will continue to maintain zero tolerance for economic sabotage.
